Leadership Development - Downtown Business Campus

Businesses and organizations planning for growth in the next five years face numerous workforce development challenges. More jobs will require “new” skills like technology competency, creativity, critical thinking and complex problem solving.

According to the World Economic Forum, everyone, including senior leadership, will require 101 days of retraining to successfully navigate this emerging skills gap.

With its Metro LEAD program, Metro Tech’s Downtown Business Campus has established a premier leadership development institute to serve community workforce needs by helping existing and emerging leaders prepare to meet these immediate challenges.

We will all need to become lifelong learners. Metro LEAD’s top priority is closing the leadership skills gap.

With 10,000 Boomers retiring every day, the numbers tell the story. Research shows that 84 percent of organizations anticipate a shortfall of leaders in the next five years, and 83 percent of organizations say it is important to develop leaders at all levels. However, only five percent have fully implemented development programs, and 25 percent of organizations say less than 10 percent of critical leadership positions have successors in place. The bottom line: 71 percent of companies do not feel their leaders are able to lead their organizations into the future. (Source: infoprolearning.com )

Leadership Development Classes - LEAD - Downtown Business Center Oklahoma CityMetro LEAD encourages participants to reinforce the concepts they learn in seminars by using them in their “day jobs” and then discuss their experiences with classmates.

Metro LEAD – a Leadership, Education and Development program – uses a unique approach.

LEAD is a holistic experience, and you don’t have to go out of state to get the level of quality the DBC offers.

The approach and benefits of the program are:

  • One class a month. Since class topics build on each other, the timing gives program participants the opportunity to put into practice the skills they learned. They develop action plans in class and move forward with reading assignments to reinforce concepts. As they practice, they stay in touch with their accountability partners to share how different approaches are working for them.

“Learning to read people and what motivates them was a critical part of my growth throughout the sessions. I can now more effectively interact with my employees to build a better team. Discussing common issues with others in different industries also built confidence in my own abilities and strengthened new skills,” said Thomas Justice, Operations Manager, Aveda Transportation.

  • Role models are part of the process. Throughout the program, local influencers share insights and lessons learned. From this, participants develop invaluable professional relationships with leaders in other industries.
  • Five different instructors. Metro LEAD training focuses on best practices presented by professional leadership trainers. Each instructor is the best in his/her field, and all of them have significant real-world working experience.
  • Sessions focus on skills development. Topics address the four essential skills of all great leaders: developing others, motivating a team, communicating effectively and driving performance. Participants discover their own personal strengths, gaps and values as a leader and manager and apply those to strengthen these core skills.
